Smart grid visionary Aneesh Chopra steps down as U.S. CTO

Aneesh Chopra

Yesterday Fedscoop reported that U.S. Chief Technology Officer Aneesh Chopra will be leaving his post. “No information was provided on his future plans, but ongoing speculation includes running for political office to assuming an executive role leading the Washington offices of a major technology company.”

Last summer I met with Chopra, and I was impressed with his vision for the smart grid. He also has been a champion of the Green Button initiative — a consumer energy data service that recently went live on the websites of three major California utilities.

My eMeter colleagues and I are sorry to see the loss of Chopra’s enthusiasm and leadership in the smart grid. We wish him all the best.
