Distribution Automation (Equipment Monitoring)

Distribution Automation supports the operational requirements for intelligent, communicating field equipment with periodic (interval, daily) and event-driven information services. It can manage the full lifecycle of such devices and map their information and operational services to distribution automation applications.

For example, EnergyIP™ accepts event notifications from automatic recloser devices that interface to the AMI system. Recloser events are tracked in the MUDR database, extracted through periodic or ad hoc reporting, forwarded to the outage management system. EnergyIP enables predefined events or event combinations to trigger activities such as automatic dispatch of field work for repair or correction actions.

Similarly, EnergyIP supports devices such as capacitor bank controllers (CBCs) and faulted circuit indicators (FCIs). The platform forwards CBC configuration parameters such as time, temperature, or power factor (PF) set points to the AMI data collection system. It handles CBC data feeds including interval data including voltage or VAR/PF channels and events such as bank switched in or out and switching failure. FCI events are forwarded to the Outage Management System and logged in the MUDR.
