CenterPoint Energy’s Electric Transmission and Distribution Subsidiary Signs Contract for eMeter Software
eMeter’s EnergyIP™ Software to Support Intelligent GridREDWOOD CITY, Calif. April 20, 2007. CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, LLC, a transmission and distribution subsidiary of CenterPoint Energy, Inc.(NYSE: CNP), signed an agreement to add significant new functionality to its initial installation of eMeter’s EnergyIP advanced meter information system (AMIS) software. The company will expand its use of EnergyIP as it takes another step toward its vision of an Intelligent Grid. An Intelligent Grid is designed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of utility operations and to increase the ability of customers to manage and use energy in a more cost-effective and efficient way. CenterPoint Energy has purchased EnergyIP AMI business process management applications for connect/disconnect automation, deployment planning & logistics, meter data analysis & reporting, field service, and outage & restoration management.
Last year’s installation of EnergyIP emphasized meter data management (MDM). eMeter’s 2007 CenterPoint Energy expansion focuses on Intelligent Grid installation, operations, and maintenance activities related to AMI. Through the use of EnergyIP, and in combination with its AMI systems and outage management system, CenterPoint Energy will have the capability to sense and detect outages and also to reduce outage duration by rerouting power immediately so that power is restored to most customers in a fraction of the time traditional methods it takes.
