Following a rigorous due diligence period of extensive scale testing of full production to 5.3 million meters, Southern California Edison chose eMeter to provide the meter data management system that will be the repository of Edison SmartConnect. This meter and event data will support SCE’s customer billing, energy information and utility operations.
eMeter technology helps enable Southern California Edison to become first utility to adopt EPRI’s IntelliGrid Architecture for a system-wide advanced metering deployment. The utility has recognized by The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) as an industry leader for its approach to advanced metering.
eMeter was amongst the first vendors chosen by SCE in its competitive solicitation process for the Edison SmartConnect program. AMI Meter and technology vendors have not been chosen; yet, as testament to SCE’s confidence in eMeter and its ability to work with other AMI vendors, SCE and eMeter have already begun implementation before a final AMI technology has been chosen.
SCE chose EnergyIP in part due to its Service Oriented Architecture, which provides support for a wide range of Intelligent Grid functions, ranging from interval metering to home area networks (HANs). Over time, SCE, using EnergyIP, will continue to take advantage of new technology developments and enhancements as well, since these are easily integrated with EnergyIP.
