JEA is the eighth largest community-owned electric utility in America, currently serving more than 360,000 customers in Jacksonville and parts of three adjacent counties.
JEA uses eMeter’s EnergyIP™ to boost the value of its Cellnet advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) beyond simply automating the monthly meter reading process. eMeter integrates EnergyIP with the company’s CIS/billing and service order management systems and is partners with Enspiria Solutions, Inc., which provided EnergyIP integration services for the JEA customer Web services and outage management systems.
JEA uses EnergyIP to support more than 360,000 electric and nearly 300,000 water meters. With one comprehensive meter data management system (MDMS), eMeter optimizes business processes for JEA’s Cellnet network meter reading (NMR) system—which serves the majority of its customers, an MV90 system for 200 large commercial customers, and an Itron PremierPlus4 handheld system.
The deployment includes a centralized usage data repository; equipment, asset and administrative data storage; and automated data, asset, and service management processes as well as tools to enable utility business process improvements. EnergyIP integrates data with JEA’s legacy CIS, mobile WMS, OMS, and handheld meter reading system, and its transformer load management and distribution planning systems.
eMeter improves the timeliness and reliability of JEA’s customer billing data and enhances the connect/disconnect process. With better visibility into power outages, the company can also speed service restoration, while better quality load data enables JEA engineers to forecast and plan more accurately.
