Success Stories

CenterPoint Energy

Houston, Texas

In January, 2006, CenterPoint Energy of Houston, Texas, licensed eMeter’s EnergyIP software to interface the utility’s information systems with AMI data as part of its Distribution Automation and Intelligent Grid Project. The implementation of the MDMS, or EnergyIP, solution is being led by IBM as the overall prime contractor for the Intelligent Grid and AMI initiatives.

As part of CenterPoint Energy’s Intelligent Grid initiative, which is focused on demonstrating the benefits of utility applications that can be enabled by BPL, CenterPoint Energy is using the EnergyIP software to ensure their ability to interface with multiple applications and to upgrade and add new meter or other communications technologies as they become available.

In the initial deployment, EnergyIP interfaced with CenterPoint Energy’s Legacy CIS for electric and SAP CIS for gas, as well as the Itron FN2.0 system.  Additionally, CenterPoint has contracted with eMeter to interface with Itron’s new OpenWay technology as part of a technology trial.   The EnergyIP software is being used to collect and process meter readings, operate remote connects/disconnects, and display outage and restoration events for the initial limited deployment of AMI.  CenterPoint Energy also plans to leverage the EnergyIP’s deployment planning and support tools to assist in the installation, activation and provisioning of advanced meters as they begin the installation of their 3 million meters in 2007.
