Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest generators of electricity and the largest producer of heat. In electricity and heat, Vattenfall works in all parts of the value chain: generation, distribution and sales. In gas, Vattenfall is mainly active in sales. Vattenfall is the leading energy company in the Nordic countries. Its operations include generation, distribution and sales of electricity and a significant heat production, largely based on biomass. Vattenfall also sells district heating and district cooling. With about 50 per cent of the Swedish electricity generation Vattenfall provides about 20 per cent of the total electricity supply in the deregulated Nordic electricity market. The main sources of electricity are nuclear power and hydro power. Smart Grid initiatives illustrate Vattenfall´s innovative approach to modernization of the grid and their business operations. In Nordic countries Vattenfall currently operates approximately 393 000 meters in Finland and another 850 000 meters in Sweden, most of which have been converted to smart metering/AMI.
eMeter’s EnergyIP is powering Vattenfall’s MDMS implementation and will provide historical storage for information regarding meters, e.g. measurement values, power outages, power quality, remote processing, meter configuration and tampering issues. The system includes functionality for validation and connection of information and interfaces to other systems for receiving andsending information. The Vattenfall solution gives improved processes, new energy efficiency services for customers, more exact network planning and construction and proactive improvement of customer voltage quality. All of which helps support Vattenfall’s vision of a clean energy future.
Vattenfall Finland MDMS solution based on EnergyIP is now in production and VattenfallSweden is currently developing their solution with go-live planned for Q1 2011.
