“Having gone through an exhaustive vendor evaluation process, eMeter and Siemens met or exceeded our expectations on all aspects of the meter data management portion of our CVPS SmartPower® project. We feel that the experience the project delivery team brings forth will enable a successful, timely and on-budget project,”
Central Vermont Public Service is the largest electric company in Vermont. CVPS serves over 159,000 customers in 163 communities. As an investor-owned utility, CVPS plays an integral role in Vermont’s economic, electric and energy future.
Central Vermont selected eMeter to provide the necessary MDMS software to commence its CVPS SmartPower® project. eMeter, along with Siemens Energy, Inc, will work with Central Vermont to integrate eMeter EnergyIP meter data management system into the company’s IT framework to manage the metering data acquired through the Elster Energy Axis advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) deployment. eMeter EnergyIP will be deployed to benefit CVPS’s 159,000 electric customers.
Central Vermont went live with eMeter EnergyIP, emphasizing two key areas. First, CVPS is currently using EIP to produce the billing determinants for their largest customers, both industrial and commercial accounts. Second, CVPS implemented the complete synchronization (ISYNC and FULL SYNC) between EIP and their CIS system. Phase II, which began in March of 2011, will include the remaining integration and functionality related to their Elster smart meter rollout beginning in October. This includes integration with the Elster Energy Axis AMI system. The first, and most noteworthy aspect of this phase, will be their switch to billing from the interval data (versus register reads) starting with the first deployed meter. Other functions to be rolled out in the future include remote connect / disconnect, Peak Time Rebate and Critical Peak Pricing programs as part of a Department of Energy Consumer Behavior Study, integration with a Customer Web Presentment tool, Demand Response Programs, and integration with CVPS’s Outage Management system.
eMeter EnergyIP will help CVPS enable the realization of CVPS SmartPower® benefits through the use of AMI data to reduce costs and improve operational decision-making, increase distribution system reliability and enhance customer satisfaction. By establishing time-based rates and deploying load-curtailable devices, CVPS will be able to conserve energy and manage peak load, as well as improve distribution operations.
