Advanced Metering Services

AMS

AMS provides advanced metering services for customers throughout New Zealand and Australia. Established jointly in 2007 by Siemens N.Z. and Vector Ltd, AMS is a multi-network infrastructure company that owns and operates energy and technology businesses and assets. Through the installation of EnergyIP and other AMI technologies, AMS provides a comprehensive set of metering services to energy retail businesses.

To date, two New Zealand energy retailers, Contact Energy and Genesis Energy (representing approximately 60 percent of the New Zealand electricity market, with 520,000 and 500,000 customers, respectively), have contracted with AMS for their metering services.

Contact Energy is currently running EnergyIP, with an emphasis on AMI business process automation. EnergyIP provides daily interval data, flat rate and time-of-use (TOU) data collection, VEE, and automated exception processing for 60,000 meters in the Canterbury region of New Zealand’s South Island. This is in preparation to roll out AMI for Contact’s entire customer base of 520,000. EnergyIP will interface with Contact Energy’s billing systems to enable seamless integration with their billing systems. Additionally, the EnergyIP suite of analytic tools will empower AMS to optimize operations for Contact Energy.

eMeter’s implementation of EnergyIP for Genesis Energy’s Smart Grid initially, will process, analyze, and store data for Genesis Energy’s initial electric AMI meter deployment. During the second phase, EnergyIP will interface with Genesis Energy’s systems for billing purposes. The AMS agreement with Genesis Energy was announced in August 2008, and is a five-year project covering Genesis Energy’s 500,000 customers. The February 2009 implementation was focused on multi-retailer capability for the New Zealand market as well as capability for AMS to deliver services to Genesis Energy.
