SAN MATEO, Calif., February 3, 2009— eMeter, a global leader in clean energy technology, today announced it has signed a contract to supply SP AusNet with the EnergyIP Meter Data Management (MDM) Solution. EnergyIP will be deployed across SP AusNet’s 680,000 residential and 20,000 commercial and industrial meter points to support their Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) / Smart Meter project.
SP AusNet is based in Victoria, Australia, and operates a distribution network delivering electricity to more than 600,000 customers in an area of more than 80,000 square kilometres of eastern Victoria. SP AusNet also operates a distribution network delivering gas to approximately 537,000 customers in an area of more than 60,000 square kilometres in central and western Victoria.
“The Victorian Smart Meter rollout is the largest program of work undertaken by any of the energy distributors since deregulation in Australia,” SP AusNet spokesperson Natasha Whalley said, “It’s critical to ensure we meet the functionality and timelines imposed by the Victorian Government.”
eMeter’s EnergyIP software enables utilities to capture the full benefits of their Smart Grid and Smart Metering initiatives including demand response programs. Demand response programs have been shown to enable electric consumers to conserve up to 20 percent of their electricity use.
“We are delighted that SP AusNet has recognized our EnergyIP MDM as the solution to their requirements,” said Cree Edwards, Chairman and CEO of eMeter. “EnergyIP will provide SP AusNet the ability to manage enormous amounts of meter data and provide real time validation, processing and delivery of this information to the deregulated market. This will be the foundation that will enable SP AusNet to support energy efficiency and demand response offerings for their customers.”
eMeter has customers in New Zealand, Canada and the United States, that are using a single EnergyIP platform to deliver meter data to the customers of multiple retail entities. A single platform is critical in deregulated environments where the distribution company must deliver meter data to multiple retailers separately and securely. EnergyIP will allow SP AusNet to not only support retailers in their current service territory, but retailers outside of their service territory, opening up new business opportunities for SP AusNet.
